The Southeastern Connecticut Building Officials Association recently hosted a continuing education session featuring Tim Mikloiche, founder of Electrical Training Services and a nationally recognized expert in electrical code development. With more than 35 years of industry experience and service on multiple NEC Code Making Panels—including the 2020, 2023, and current 2026 cycle—Tim brought valuable insight into the evolution of the National Electrical Code and the regulatory impacts municipal building officials can expect in the coming years.
During the session, Tim guided attendees through key portions of the current NEC, offering practical context on how previous code cycles have shaped today’s requirements. He then provided a detailed look at the ongoing development process for the 2026 NEC, explaining the technical issues, safety considerations, and industry trends driving proposed changes.
Participants received clarity on how these emerging revisions may affect inspection practices, permitting, enforcement, and interdepartmental coordination at the municipal level. Tim’s unique perspective—as a Master Electrician/Electrical Contractor, Electrical Inspector, Building Official, and long‑serving member of Connecticut’s Codes and Standards Committee—helped bridge the gap between national code development and everyday field application.
The event offered building officials a timely opportunity to stay ahead of upcoming NEC updates and strengthen their understanding of the rationale behind them. We extend our thanks to Tim for delivering an informative and engaging CEU session and for his continued contributions to electrical and building safety in Connecticut.
